October Thousand Page Club Results
Thank you everyone for utilizing the online reading clubs forms this month. It seems > 40 students utilized the form this month (hope to see grow next month) reading over 800 books and over 38,000 pages! There may be more result via the paper forms but those will take longer to process.
One suggestion which will help us save a little time on the data analysis is please use the same name and email for the online form for every entry (email less important). There were several cases where one might enter ‘John Doe’ and then ‘Doe John’ or ‘Joe Doe’. We total the number of pages by the student name so keeping it consistent will save time.
Thanks also to Carolina for her continued hard work for this club.

Dear Madera Families,
Many of you are regular participants in Madera’s reading clubs, Olympic Readers and the Thousand Page Club. These clubs are a great way to encourage students to read daily.
This year we’ve expanded our reading clubs to include an online submission form. This will allow students and parents to submit their information throughout the month as books are completed rather than having to maintain a list for a month at a time. To participate in the reading clubs online, go to
http://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/HP0cV1dMlf79Cb0bGI
for Olympic Readers (Grades 3-6)
or http://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/Nw2M0Ap4RUX73nmy
for Thousand Page Club (K-2)
and fill in the form. After submitting the required information, you will automatically be emailed a confirmation, which will include the information you just submitted in case you would like to keep track of your child’s reading at home as well.
If you wish to continue with the traditional paper forms, they are still available. A monthly form will be included in your child’s blue folder. Simply print the form, fill it out, and turn it in by the due date each month for your child to receive credit for the books he or she reads.
If you have any questions, please contact Carolina for Thousand Page club
concerns, or Tracey for Olympic Readers club.
Thank you,
Carolina and Tracey

Then, I assume the page counting has begun?!

Hi Helen-
Yep, reading clubs are up and running. =)
Thanks!
Tracy, would you prefer I not have the students fill the logs out as part of their homework packet?
Carl
Hi…. I have a question! I’ve been logging my child’s reading online per finished book. Is that suitable?
I still need to enter September’s reading. How do I do that?
Christy
Hi Christy,
The reading club isn’t taking september entries anymore, if you enter books read on the form now, they will count for october.

I love the idea of a paperless Thousand Page Club; however, I’m wondering if there is a way to have a login to pull up our “account” and therefore a) show the child all the books that have been read and b) more importantly, avoid the time-consuming task of typing in teacher, child’s name, email for each book read. Often we’ll read a couple books at a time, so it is tedious to have log each one and input repetitive information. Thanks!
Hi Stephanie,
Yes – I know it’s a pain! Unfortunately, creating logins / accounts tracking is a major undertaking, outside of the capabilities of the site in its current form, and there isn’t a 3rd party site (that I’ve seen, at least – if you find one, let us know!) that we could use that would integrate with the reading club. The closest thing would be something like goodreads.com. There should be a setting in your browser’s memory (at least in firefox) where you can type the first letter of something you entered previously on a form and it will show you a list below the form field. That should save you a little time.
Thanks for your feedback,
-mb
