Harding ReCycle Bike Sale

bikes are cool!

Harding ReCycle Bike Sale
Saturday, May 19, 2012 | 10:00 am
@Harding Elementary School
7230 Fairmount Ave, El Cerrito, CA

A message from Harding Dad’s Club:

May 19th is the 2nd Annual Harding ReCycle used bike sale and bicycle
festival at Harding Elementary. As part of this bike-promotion and safety event, the Harding Dad’s Club is collecting donations of old bicycles. A number of parents with some bike mechanic experience are refurbishing the bikes so that at the ReCycle event we can sell them at a reasonable cost. Some bikes will also be given away.

If you have old bikes in the garage that just aren’t ridden any more, please consider donating them. We’ll take any size bike in any almost condition (exceptions include heavily rusted or severely damaged bikes). We will gladly arrange to pick the bike up from you and give you a receipt for your tax deductible donation. Please email Steve Zavestoski or Emiliano Gomez to arrange pick-up.

You are also all invited to the event. Entrance is free. Bring your donation receipt and receive an automatic entry into a raffle for a new 24″ wheel bicycle valued at $350 (or equivalent value gift certificate) from Solano Avenue Cyclery.

Please feel free to circulate this request for donations and invitation to the event widely as it is free and open to the public.

Thanks,

Steve Zavestoski

Yes on K: Urgent – Please Read and Distribute

Hi All,

Our WCCUSD schools have already had $40 million slashed from their budgets over the last five years. Due to the financial situation in the state budget, our schools in WCCUSD are now at risk of MORE budget cuts for next year! BUT, please read on to find out what we can do to stop the bleeding!

In our schools, 52 teachers have already received pink slips, and 28 classified staff! With this reduction in staff, class size is at risk of being increased significantly in the lower grades, and cuts to some key programs would result such as counselors, librarians and sports.

Measure K is a parcel tax renewal (and a small increase) on the June 5th ballot. It would provide our schools the funding to maintain core academic programs, reduce class sizes, and improve college readiness, but ACTION IS NEEDED NOW to support our students and schools, and prevent even more devastating budget cuts!

Please post this note on your Facebook page and forward this message to five friends.

If Measure K does not pass, WCCUSD students will be hit hard. The District will be forced to continue with layoffs at all levels — including in the classroom. Without Measure K, elementary class sizes will skyrocket. All students will likely lose critical programs such as libraries, counselors, and sports.

In addition to the 52 certificated teachers who have received pink slips, the District has requested layoffs for another 28 classified staff positions, potentially terminating 80 positions if Measure K does not pass.

If Measure K passes, then class size reduction would continue at elementary schools, and the District will be able to decrease class size at high schools. Funding would also go to strengthen core academic programs in the classroom, including support for science labs, as well as technology training, after-school and college-readiness programs. The 52 certificated teachers could be retained.

Here are seven easy things you can do to help Measure K pass:

(1) Register to Vote by Mail: http://www.cocovote.us/Content.aspx?ID=76
(2) Inform yourself about Measure K: http://www.protectwestcountyschools.com/
(3) Display a window sign: http://www.protectwestcountyschools.com/take-action/
(4) Sign up to phone bank: http://www.protectwestcountyschools.com/events/
(5) Talk to your friends, and neighbors! – Forward this info to other parents/friends.
(6) Post this note on Facebook
(7) Make your voice heard: VOTE!

First Farmer’s Market this Friday!

Friday April 27, 2012
2:40pm – 3:30pm

Madera Farmer's Market posters

All market posters have been made by our 3rd grade farmers!

Hello Madera Community,

Please come out and celebrate our first Farmers Market this Friday after school in the garden.

What we are selling: greens, lettuce, radishes, onions, beets, herbs, carrots, peas, cabbage, lemons, limes, tomato plants, eggs.

Prices: From .50 cents to $5 dollars- items will be prices individually based on each farm’s determination of worth.

All money raised from our market goes to the garden so that we can buy more plants and supplies and to a local non-profit charity of the 3rd grade farmers’ choice.

Come buy some veggies for your dinner and support our hardworking 3rd grade farmers.

Thanks and see you there,

Molly Wahl
